The area Maasvlakte 2 is created by reclaiming land from the North Sea through dykes and sand suppletion. On this newly created land, VolkerRail has built several railway connections, and Bjorn was the Project Controller of the railway project meaning that he was responsible for reporting on budget and all budget deviations.
This project was challenging to control, as there were many risk and uncertainties to build railway on sand. Bjorn needed to collaborate closely with the client to make them aware of any potential financial risks/ hits. What is also mentionable is that for the duration of the project, Bjorn needed to travel three days a week, 280km per day through the most traffic sensitive area of the Netherlands.
